They will not work in concert if they are not both "w"'s.
You can get an upgrade for the regular one for around $60 if you really want the capability.
I run 2 mp10es's in my 57 gallon, and while the wireless sync capability is cool, they work fine without it. I just set them both to ecoSMART mode, and programmed a standing wave in each, and start them off at the same time. I get great flow.
