What's up with my water wisteria?!

Ok so today I sat down and looked at my tank, I noticed that my water wisteria had two things
Thing #1. I noticed that one if the leaves is turning black, I mean BLACK! Not even brown, black, like charcoal black!
Thing#2. There is what seems like a root coming out of one part, what's up with that! Is it normal?

Did you just get the plant? The water wisteria looks to be grown emerged and is shedding it's emerged growth to be replaced by its submerged growth. The root is normal for stem plants
 
Oh ok I see about the root, should I remove it?

I have about 1.5 months with the plant
 
I would think it would have already converted, but I'm not sure. Rivercats should chime in
