white stuff on glass

I have 2 kinds of white stuff growing on my glass. The first on looks like crysyals,kinda like aquarium salt before it disolves. It is really hadr to get off. The second kind looks like little white tree branches with little stems. Do you know what these are? Sorry, my camera is down right now.

I can't think of anything that would seem like crystals...
The second thing sounds like it could be a sponge. Or maybe even foraminiferans though I don't know if they would attach to glass. Here is a nice site for ID'ing. Scroll to the bottom, there is three pages of misc. critters.
