Will My FIlter be OK with Sand?

All right, you guys have me sold on the pool filter sand for substrate. I already have an AquaClear 70 hob filter,but I've been told more than once now that hob filters can't be used with sand, any truth to that at all?

It depends on how far down the intake is. If it's a few inches above the sand then you run the risk of sand being kicked up into the intake and getting into the impeller.

I keep all my intakes at least 4 inches above the sand, just in case.
