Today I acquired a 90 gallon aquarium with a coral life t5 lighting system 300 watt heater fuval 305 canister filter and a whole bunch of nice rock. I plan to create a Malawi cichlid tank. I will add a HOB filter rated at 400 Gph brining my my total Gph to over 600. My question is how many cichlids are too many and how many are to few in regards of both over overstocking and adequate aggression distribution? I have never owned cichlids before except for a pair of yellow labs I should of never owned but live and learn I returned them to the pet store before anything bad happened so any advice would be appreciated

Thank you, 23 fish sounds good and I may get a third filter as they grow larger I'm buying them small. Also are there any reliable reference of images to distinguish the cichlids? I haven't been able to find one and all of my local pet stores just say assorted african cichlids.
