Someone in a chat room told me that Africa has closed off all three lakes to any possible attempt at capturing wild Africans. Supposedly it is now illegal to capture cichlids due to the high level of breeding in the trade, allowing for the lakes to have an un-disrupted fauna level. Is there any truth to this? If so, I'd love to see an associated article. The person said that they were told this by a buddy at a LFS.

Thanks.

I have not heard this and was recently at the GCCA show and not a peep from anyone else either, so I'd be curios if this was true.

It seems plausible, I guess. If so many are bred in captivity I guess it couldn't hurt to close off the lakes to the trade.

Still, though, I need more information. Never trust word of mouth!
