Apisto stocking ?

How many apistos should I get for a 56 gallon column tank? Does it matter male / female?

What is the footprint on that tank? Columns usually have a small footprint and with apistos being bottom dwellers there may only be space for a pair or trio. As far as the sex it depends on preference of color (display tanks) or wanting to try out breeding them.

30x18x24. Display only. No breeding. Also have 6 cories and a syno cat.

You could get away with 3-4 males with that footprint.

Yes stick with males for appearance & no breeding
Make sure they have hiding spots they might get aggressive
But since there is no females then I would think the aggression will decrease
Have plants, driftwood & rocks to break the line of sight
