Yeah so does mine but still running elec by being plugged in. Husband doesn't like it and is nagging for me to unplug it. :-/

When its off its off. The thermostat breaks the connection at or above temp. I don't think u will see any difference in the elec bill.

Thanks I'll tell him that. Whinger. He should be greatful I don't have 7 tanks running anymore and only have the one lol.

If I'm correct and I'm generalizing on heaters the thermostat would be the same as a light switch. Its usually a metal that contracts and expands by heat.
