What is the minimum tank size for blue rams? Can they be kept in a community aquarium and live peacefully? Is one male and one female ok? I know they prefer lower ph's but would the be ok at a stable 7.5? How big do they grow?

Thanks in advance

minimum tank size I would do is a 30 gallon maybe a 20 long, not a 20 high. One male and one female typically work well together. It does all depends on the individual temperament. You do not want two males together. They can be kept in a community, they are in the cichlid family so they can get nippy. They grow to about the size of a 50 cent piece. Hope this helps

Thanks there in a 20 and I got male and female. They now live with 3 swords 1male 2males 8 harlequin rasbora and 5 neons. Temps kept at 25 degrees and ph has always been 7.5. It's a heavily planted aquarium with lots of hiding places. Parameters are good. I just hope they are definitely male and female. I'll post a pic if I can snap them.

It has helped thanks. Looking to upgrade tank soon also at Xmas.

20 is more than okay. I keep breeding pairs in 10 gallons but for a beginner the bigger the tank the better. Male and female pairs work best and they are very sensitive to nitrates and stress

Here are pics of them. Are they different sexes? They look different. Hmm I'll have to take extra care with nitrates.
