Bolivian Ram behavior questions

So I currently have 3 bolivian rams in my 20 gallon high alongside 6 tiger barbs. During feeding time the rams would eat off the surface with the barbs. Now I know that rams are naturally bottom dwellers so I'm not so much worried, but curious about this behavior. Is this a perfectly normal behavior? Has anyone experienced this with rams?
