(theyre both the same fish)

A females belly will turn dark red when old enough and ready to breed. I thought all the young Kribs in my 20 were males till I noticed a red belly. A week later I see fry swimming around. That was yesterday. Second generation born in that tank.
If I had to guess I would say in the bottom pic you have a male in the forground. The one in the background might be showing the red belly. Hard to tell.

hard to see the back of the dorsal fin. males have a longer, very pointed dorsal fin, while females have a much more rounded, and shorter, dorsal fin.

I think you have a male there...but without a really great shot of the dorsal fin, I do resign myself to say there's a slim chance it's a stress female who's in no way wanting to spawn (no red belly)

The fish pictured is acting kinda strange and hiding in the corner... but if the colour of it's belly means it's willing to spawn, and the other fish in the tank does have a rounder and more red stomach, would this mean the other is a male? is it usually the female that needs to attract attention from the male??

here are some shots that arent very clear, but you can see the red in what i think is a female.

In those last two pictures you have a male and a female in each. No question about it. The females normally have a shorter body that is more round than the male and the red stomach is more dominant.

thanks gheitman... is it normal that the male is hiding in the top corner and the female is chasing him around? .. i dont think she's harming him

wellthe female is always flaring up and spends most of the time in her little cave, or swimming around the tank.. she doesnt really bother him except every now and then she decides to chase him (mostly at feeding time coz he actually moves)

do you think it's possible that they would spawn? i did only get them 2 days ago, so maybe he's still just adapting to his new surroundings?

Mine spawned in about a weeks time of putting them together. Got them a week apart. As long as they find a good place to nest the eggs they will likely do the deed in a matter of days.
