So besides good filtration and flow I know is that anything that you should be adding to the water (like chemicals or salt) to make your cichlids happy?

In general, no. Since there are so many types of cichlids, with such different needs, its hard to say. What kind are you asking about?

hard water soft water high ph low ph does fine with other fish should be kept spices only needs groups can be alone i can go on and on and some will apply to some others some will apply to them..... like mfd said there are so many kinds and they are on the whole spectrum what is true for one might not be true for another.... some like flow others not so much...
