My LFS has a tank dedicated to 'mixed African Malawi cichlids', and I would like to get a few for my 56 gallon. It currently houses mixed rainbowfish, catfish, and a kribensis.

The cichlids I've been looking at are: electric yellow mbuna, ice blue mbuna, red zebra mbuna, and albino peacock mbuna. I could put them in my 20 gallon if I had to, but I want to make that tank a dwarf puffer tank.

My question is will the mbunas kill the rainbows or any other fish in the tank, and/or will they fight with the kribensis?

Thanks in advance

Mbuna are very territorial and shouldn't be house with fish not from Lake Malawi. Even mixing certain species from within Malawi are not able to be housed together. A 20 gallon will no where near sufficient. 55 gallons or larger
