Cookie the rescue Discus

Though a list of his probs is in his dramatic resue thread
Here I have a large peaceable fish, previously stressed with many big chunks out of his hide and bruises.
Biggest worry is a pectoral fin that we witnessed get heavily damaged.
how important is that fin to discus well being and locomotion? the fin is somewhat shredded but intact in size I think.
The other fish was determined to yank the whole thing off and I am sure the muscle is damaged. It is highly favored and he sits on bottom rather than use it without need. I am sure if anything makes a fish feel "hurt" this fin prolly does!
What can speed recovery of that extent and type of damage?

Keep the fish calm. That fish has a long road to health in front of him (but you knew that ). Good luck!

It is a very calm and people friendly fish. He is in a corner behind a screen where the betta tanks are in my girls room. So he is not going to have random viewing or be surprised on approaches.
