I was at my LFS the other day and all of the employees are now swearing my sachem matrix biomedia and saying that it greatly lowers nitrates and never has to be replaced. Do any of you have any experiences with this stuff or do you think its just hype?

I have some in my HOB. Go to the dollar store. Get a pack of dollar store plastic scrubbers They work great. Hold a ton of good bacteria. When I have a tough patch of algae I pull one out of my sump and scrub away. When im done i put it back. ****WARNING**** Some sponges and scrubbers have an additive that will kill your fish. Read your labels...The dollar store ones I bought had nothing on the label.

Supposedly Seachem Matrix requires a low flow (less than 50gph) to be affective at nitrate reduction.
