How big can a tiger Oscar get both 5.5 g or 10g I know they should at least be in a 55 g tank but my classroom has a regular Oscar about 8 inches so please let me know

O's "can reach" upwards of 16" but 13-14" is the more common. Sadly a 55 for a full grown adult is to small of a tank. Reaching the 13-14" inch mark puts them the length that the tank is deep(front to back)

A 75. Is actually the recommendation for a single Oscar.

Also if you were to try the 55g. The amount of filtration and water changes to keep the water parameters under control would be massive, and that's with just the single fish(no tank mates).

If you have a 55. Try a jack Dempsey. They are great fish. And will do well in a 55.

Good luck. Let us know what you end up picking. We love pics!!! ;)
