It depends on if you are talking about Apistogramma species of Cichla species. What sort of cichlids do you mean?

That spotted puffer will probably kill your cichlids. Those dudes are evil. I put a spotted puffer in with my 9 inch Oscar and my Oscar was hiding in a cave for a week. I lifted up the cave to see what the deal was and his fins were eaten almost completely off thanks to the puffer fish. Be careful with those little bastards. They are cute but will kill a cichlid in a heartbeat.
