I am wondering if I should go with just 2 or maybe try 4 or 5. Oh and a large pleco of some kind. Oh a 75 gallon tank.

If you are going for breeding than get a group of juveniles(4-6) and grow them out together. They are really cool fish and IME have great personality. Here's my large male.

I have never kept JD's but I have done a lot of research on them as they are one of my favorite fish. Everything I have read seems to say a 75 is perfect for a breeding pair. If I were going to do it I would be wary of keeping any more than 2 once they pair.

JD's should be kept singularly or as a pair. So I wouldn't go with 4 or 5 but you can start with a group until two pair off.

75 gallons is plenty big enough so you could do a pleco if you so wish.
