I had thought this subadult Mbuna was a rusty because of its pale brown color and orange dorsal, but when I received rusty juvies in the mail that are a different brown and with their sub lineal black dorsal line, I realized this one I already had must be something else.

It has faint vertical barring that is much more visible under the evening blue lights, and it’s brown and orange coloring has just started coming up in the last few months. It was pale grayish all over until it was about two inches long in a mostly Mbuna community tank with probably no other of its own species.

Not anything I'm familiar with, but I'm not an expert. It could be some kind of hybrid. There's something familiar about the head shape though, but not anything I've got.
