So this is my male Rubescens at 2 1/4" tonight. I have raised him on NLS. Well, I ordered the UltraRed yesterday and decided I would see if it starts to make a difference in his color. Starting Wednesday 3/25 I will feed the UltraRed daily in appropriate amounts, fast on Sundays (w/c day, my fish don't subscribe to any particular religion as far as I know) and frozen brine once a week. If anyone is interested in following I will post pictures weekly, or more often if a big change happens. Hope this turns out cool!

Anxiously await the results. I need more red in my fish.

Got my Amazon order this morning... They'll hear about this one. Cap off, seal broken and the bottle is broken open! At least most of the food seems to have stayed in the box. And my cichlid salts didn't spill!

Week 1 complete. Well, it is too early to tell imo, but both seem darker, this could be increased coloring because they are growing. The rubescens is hanging out at the back corner of the tank not doing much... he is eating OK but I hope nothing is wrong. I am fasting them all for 2 days to clear the guts (day 1 done). Thanks! Another update to come in a week!

I don't think that's an Aulonocara Rubescens, looks more like a young Aulonocara Baenschi. Rubescens is usually the scientific name for Ruby Red peacocks, at which their color should be reddish-orange for the most part (especially in the fins). Just my opinion at least lol.

Definately a Rubescens, I got him out of a fry tank below the breeder tank. That is why I bought the ultra red because he isn't showing enough. At this point it doesn't matter, he has sunken belly so I am treating everyone for parasites. I'll keep posting pics of the jake as long as he doesn't get ill.

How did the test go?
