I folks. I am new here, so far I love the forum. I used to have several African tanks ranging from 55 to 125 gallons. Then I got married and acquired some children and the fish took a backseat. 10 years later I want them back. I have been easing my way back into the hobby. Both of my sons have small community tanks. I have a 55 planted tank with 20 or so various tetras. While the tetras are cool, they do not compare to an active cichlid tank. In fact I have already started collecting cool rocks.
I know conventional wisdom changes over time. For example I used to insist on using an UGF now I am told they are garbage. So for cichlids what is the best substrate, lighting and filtration to use these days? Instead of buying another tank I am likely going to stick with a 55.
