Hi, I recently purchased two new german blue rams (young ones not fully grown) and I chose them originally because they seemed to have paired up in the store tank and were chasing the other young rams away from their chosen corner of the display tank. I had high hopes that they were a male and female because one has a pink toned belly and less of a spike on the dorsal fin and the other has a visibly raised spike on the dorsal and no pink in the belly. However now a couple weeks later, they are just as fond of each other but as I watch them more I am fearful that they are both actually female because I read on another site that only the females have black stripes on the pelvic fins and my little friends both definitely have black striped pelvic fins. I am now wondering whether I should just be happy that my rams are healthy and beautifully colored and give up on having the potential for breeding or if I should try to find a male ram. My worry is that if they are both female and I add a male ram to my tank, one of the ladies will eventually get bullied badly when the other two pair up. I have a heavily planted 30 gallon tank and I have kept rams very successfully in the past but have never bred them so I was hoping to have the potential for breeding this time.
