I use pool filter sand. I paid like $18 Aussie for 25 kg (50lb).

To keep African cichlids, keep their water clean, don't let the pH crash. Feed them good food.

Your tanks never cease to amaze me. I think you are the reason I'm setting up my new 75g as a Malawi tank. May have to pick your brain later down the road.

Feel free to pick away! Are you going haps/peacocks or mbuna?

I have a room full of them. When they breed I do sell them when they grow up enought.

This weekend was spent in the shed. A friend helped me put a stud wall in to divide the shed in half. Plans are to clad and insulate the shed, suitable to make it the fish room and move the fish room out of the house.

Now that's a project! Are you going to expand at this point or keep the same number of tanks? Looks like you got a bit more real estate for the tanks.

I'll be expanding, I picked up a few 2nd hand tanks and that blue second hand rack. It will really only mean i can grow out more of the current species I have.

It will be nice to have them in a purpose built room. I can build some efficiencies into the room to save time with water changes, that I couldn't do in the house.

Keep it up! I skimmed all 18 pages and saw a lot of great stuff! I am switching over to African cichlids soon and really wish I could buy your frys. Beautiful fishes as well!

Very inspiring and I am beyond excited!
