So i turned on my lights earlier today and my oscar started flaring its gills and vibrating its whole body. Whats he/she doin

Yes, they seem to be mating displays. But it can also be a sign of aggression. Your Oscar may be seeing a reflection of himself.

By vibrating, do you mean shaking his body laterally with his mouth open? If so, sounds like my Oscar when he attacks the glass.

She's sending out a signal to the other fish in the tank. Oscars do vibrate their tails when courting, as well as as a sign of aggression. If you don;t have another Oscar big enough to be a breeder, she's probably sending the other fish a "this is mine" signal ;)
