Theoretically they should however, it will depend on the age of the pleco fry as they are very soft when first hatched so easy to be picked on/at by even smaller fish. So for newly hatched plecos, I'd say not to do it until the fry are at least 3-4 weeks old.

I'm going to say no they should not be kept together at any age because the plecos come from soft water with a low pH and the Malawis come from hard water with a high pH.
