So I was about to vacuum my 40 gallon breeder tank with Africans and tried using a mini vacuum I had laying around. It worked great in all the nooks and cranny's that my larger vacuum can't reach. And it didn't drain fast so I had a lot of extra time to clean.
 
Here's a pic of my tank. I like the 40B better than my 55G.

It's a Top Fin mini gravel vacuum I got on eBay for a couple of bucks. Rated for up to 10 gallon tanks.

i use the same thing on my 40g african tank. but i took the large plastic part off of the tube, and just use the tubing, but i have sand. if u have gravel u prob need the plastic part.
