Newbie american cichlid tanks

Hi after years if having tropicals I have finally started my cichlid tank, I have four roughly the same size , there has been lots of fin biting, do they get over it? Do the find grow back quickly? Is a 50g tank

What specific cichlids?

Convict, fire mouth,
Blue Acara and a jewel. Recommended by local aquarium shop.

I believe it's the jewel doing the damage? I'm guessing he is just establishing his dominance

I've been told to add more fish to spread the aggression around.. Anyone have any thoughts?
