Ph Question

Why is it that cichlids need a higher PH level? Can they still live with a lower PH level?

If you are referring to ARLC, their natural habitat is replete with massive amounts of compounds creating almost a liquid rock environment. These fish do much better in higher ph's than their American cousins.

ive seen cichlids come from tanks with 7.0 ph

once i eased them onto a higher ph they sprung to life, both in thier movement and thier colours.
