Cichlid is an amazingly broad term. Cichlids span more that three continents and come in many differant varietys what kind of cichlid did you have in mind?

I understand the meaning of do not do it. My girlfriend loves yellow and I love blue. Any chance to get these color combos? Also all within a 55g tank.

Yes you can.
Yellow Labs / Demasoni mixes. (I have a 40g B with this)
Saulosi (single species, males are beautiful blue and females are yellow)
