Scared my Cichlids

I took in two goldfish for a few days after my neighbors kid broke his tank while he picked up another one, yes, I know, not a good idea but when a crying kid comes knocking on your door with two fish in his hand all you think about is saving them so I told him throw them in my tank.
So I grab my net to get them out after a few days, took me like 3 minutes to catch both in my 60 gallon tank and I guess I startled my cichlids. They used to come to the front of my tank every time they heard my steps and now they all run and hide. Will this behavior change after a few weeks? It has been about a week like this now and I miss my fish coming up to greet me.

Try putting some dither fish in the tank.this is how it works in the wild when they see schooling fish that means there its no predators around so they stop hiding
