Ive got 1 firemouth, 1 severum, 1 yoyo loach, 2 congo tetras and a rubber lip pleco and ive got algae carpeting the bottom of my tank, the pleco just sits on the sponge filter all the time and sucks algae out of it instead of helping and i heard corys eat some algae but i want further input before i make a decision.
Corys are great cleaner fish. And fun to watch in a small school. Very active. But I don't think they are much good for eating algae. I could be wrong on that tho, but I've never seen mine eat algae. Some plecos only eat algae as juveniles, then become more carnivore than herbivore. A few types will continue to eat algae, but given the option, will generally eat food/detritus that's settled to the bottom
Ive never heard of a cory catfish eating algae. Mine will eat algae wafers, especially if its crushed up, but not growing algae. Possibly they might if starving.
