Small Cichlid Tank

I'm wanting to do a smaller cichlid tank (gallon wise) what would be a good size to get that isn't too small but isn't too big?
 
What type of cichlids are you interested in? Some dwarf Tanganyika species (such as shell dwellers) can be kept in as small as a 10g tank. Other types of dwarf African, Central, and South American species can be kept in a 20g tank, provided you keep your numbers down and do your research. Otherwise, I would say at least a 55g for most species of African, and small New World cichlids.
