I feed my mbunas NLS cichlid formula (32% protein) and a low-protein/high-spirulina pellet made by my LFS. My mbuas aren't very excited about the low-protein pellet, so I was thinking about getting some Spirulina 20 Fish Food Flakes to feed my cichlids. I noticed though that the minimum protein content is 45% and the first ingredient is salmon meal, not spirulina. How safe is this for mbunas? Any bloat problems with its usage?

From the label:

Ingredients:
Salmon Fish Meal, Spirulina Algae Meal, Soy Flour, Wheat Flour, Brewers Dried Yeast, Corn Starch, Dried Krill Meal, Shrimp Meal, Plankton Meal, Lecithin, Vegetable Oil, Vitamin A Supplement, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Vitamin E Supplement, L-Ascorbyl-2-Polyphosphate (stabilized Vitamin C).

Guaranteed Analysis:
Crude Protein (min)... 45.0%
Crude Fat (min)... 4.0%
Crude Fiber (max)... 3.0%
Moisture (max)... 8.0%

It would probably be ok in small amounts. Omega one makes a flake aswell and I've used it with no problems. You can also go to a all natural food store and buy Spirulina
