Stocking for a 55 gallon aquarium

[The boring name]

Hey guys I'm wanting to stock my new 55 gallon with two different possibilities.
1xPair of convict
7x tiger barbs
1x firemouth
Or
1x eb jack Dempsey
7x tiger barbs
1x firemouth
The tank is a standard 48 inch long. Have an emperor 400 and a sunsun canister on the way. Anything you would add or take away?

I would go with the second group. A pair of cichlids would hate everything else in the tank the barbs would be fast enough, but I don't know about the firemouth
