I haven't had to deal with Ich yet, knock on wood! But in reading posts, a lot of people detail a "natural" way to treat by slowly raising the temp, adding salt, pwc. Etc. Excuse my ignorance, but just for my understanding why is that recommended over the medical treatment of Ich?

Thanks, I enjoy learning from y'all!

The natural way is prolly a little easier on the tank. Meds can sometimes have negative effects. Not only that but the natural way is tried and true. Meds have mixed reviews.

Some of the ich meds can kill off some of your beneficial bacteria. Some fish like scaless fish and catfish don't do well with the ich meds. I have dealt with ich a couple times and did the heat salt method and only lost 1 fish. It works!! also some meds that contain methalyn blue and malachite green will stain your silicone in your tank and deco.
