Using local peat for a S.A.with discus/tetras

I live in an area where there is an abundance of local peat and the ground is quite boggy. Can you use this 'wild' peat in the tank? In fact, the water out of the tap is coppery- can you use this too?
 
That sounds like an ideal setup. The only problem I see is the possibility of chemicals or possibly heavy metals. It does sound like your water source is underground and sounds like an almost "blackwater" environment.

Test the water parameters out of the tap. You may have the softest acidic water already.
