heyyyyy everybody!!

i'm bored so i thought i'd try to get some critiques on my tank. :)

its a 55gallon mixed african tank. i use 2 marineland 350's (700gph) so even though i'm overstocked my levels are legit. i have 25 cichlid stones arranged into a huge cave system with tons of hiding spots, etc. its been going strong for about 2 years now & (knock on wood) i haven't had any issues.

here's where i'm gonna get beat up lol .. my m:f ratios are off & its kinda crowded, but for now its working really well.

my stock consists of:
4 acci (not sexed)
4 red zebras (1m/3f)
2 kenyi (1m/1f - 2nd female was eaten)
1 female johanni
1 male yellow lab
1 male victoria nile
1 male venustus
1 male lupinga
1 male hongi
1 female ob peacock
1 male dragon blood
-----------------------
2 rafael cats
1 tiger shovelnose cat (still small)
1 whiptail pleco
1 gold nugget pleco

so yeah, i know my ratios are off and my lakes are a little mixed AND that i'm overstocked, but the tank is thriving & pretty peaceful. none of my fish ever have more than a nip (usually not even that), everyone eats & no one hides from anyone.

ok folks, i think thats it. let me have it. how much do you all hate me? haha! .. but seriously, let me know what ya think. i'm always open for suggestions :)

i'd like to maybe swap one or two for a female hongi or 2, but after rehoming 6-7 fish (yeah, i was INSANELY overstocked) i wouldn't know who to part with now. maybe i'll just upgrade to a 100breeder or a 125 ... hmmmm??!??

Hello! I'm not new to fish keeping but I am new to cichlids and all I have are Africans. I can't help you with your stock but there's a lot of people on here that are very knowledgeable and helped me out so I'm sure they'll chime in for that. I do want to say that you have a very nice tank! If you upgrade, get the biggest you can afford (and have room for). I got a 90g and now I'm wanting a 280 lol! I will follow this thread, good luck! :)

First off to make it easier I'd go with the 6 footer. You'll have a ton more room to play with. Personally if I had that tank and couldn't upgrade I'd get rid of the venustus to make more room.

thanks fishy .. i'm hoping to upgrade it by next summer but i have to do some electrical work before i can move anything .. not looking forward to it lol

and andrew, i've wanted a 6 footer for years but i stick with the 55's cuz they're so easy to maintain.. and i cant get rid of vega the venustus!! thats my dude!! haha
