Are you running the light that came with the tank to support these corals? I have the same tank for my saltwater tank. Yours looks better.

Interesting... so what differences are there in care? I saw a Chalice here somewhere and thought it looked similar. Since I don't know that much didn't give it additional thought, lol

Chalices are lower light and like less flow. They're considered an lps coral.

Thank you. The light fixture was changed due to it breaking according from what I understand from the previous owner. It is a simple twist on off switch with a screw in light socket. I have an Aqueon 10W 50/50 screw in compact florescent bulb. I also have an additional same bulb in a gooseneck desk light which I point directly towards my Ricordea mostly and pull the top light forward to get the light closer to the front of the tank.

Doesn't look good but I feel the light bulbs are doing good for the corals.

Well it seems now that the Chalice previously known as a Monti is doing much better at a lower level and further away from the light and heavy flow from the HOB. So if this is true then I would understand now :)

Thank you both for helping and checking in how this is going!

Ok, Thanks. I'm going to get a led from eBay.

Yeah there is a bunch of room in the front of the hood so I think that is a great idea. I have not decided about keeping it SW so I didn't know which type of light I needed/wanted. That was one reason I didn't pick up the rest of the corals I bought yet

Well, now i have to consider having a Chalice.

Keep at sw! I promise you won't regret it!!

Thanks.
Well I love the 15G column tank but it isn't full of options for critters and fish. The corals I do have other than the loss on the flipping upside down 2 times frag, are doing pretty well for cheapo light bulbs.

Some things have come up and cost is a factor for keeping it up and advancing. I have a few little things and I don't have to go big, I can just add little things and build over time...

But, I am needing to decide as I have about 3 weeks of FW QT for some fish my daughter just got a plunked into the tank with the ones which were ready to leave QT, but she mixed them; ready to move to DT and the new additions together so I can't chance these new fish giving something to the others. Now there are too many to move to the new FW QT, a 16G (12 Cardinals, a Guppy, 2 Melanotaenia boesemani Rainbows, A Opaline Gourami, a Dwarf Gourami, and 2 Bronze Cories) So I now will need to wait to use the 35G Jebo which is what I was thinking about upgrading to.

Well thinking of giving it up as a possibility.

The tank hasn't really been any trouble yet, I just don't know as much as I feel I should. I have been working a lot, and with everything being so busy, I am tired a lot. I don't want to short the tank the time it needs, and with very little extra money to put into it, I was thinking I could easily rehome the zillion snails, LR and sand, and my "invisible, ghost shrimp" aka Peppermint and Fire Red shrimp.

So...

The tank needs to be rescaped, because as you mentioned previously the tank is limited in a way as it sits now. It is too full of rock and the shape makes it hard to get to anything to move, adjust, clean, etc. I figured I might try the 35G. So I kept all the rock in there to stay live.

Somewhere is my Koralia powerhead. Haven't run across it yet.

I have a box which held a UV sterilizer which was given to me, but I broke the bulb.

Could that be used as a refugium, if I can get the light to work again and put in a regular bulb. It also got left out in the rain about a year ago and maybe needs a rewire, new switch. (not sure)

Nothing really goes smoothly. :/

Thank you also. :) I might just need to ask more questions.

Everyone said don't be in a hurry. I don't want to make a stocking mistake and waste money and I don't want poison corals to sting me, I have sensitive skin.

So I think I will maybe just plan on the bigger tank. And try a few things but will ask lots of questions first.

Sorry this is so long! :thanks:

Really sorry that was so long.

So I went and dug out the UV sterilizer thing I was given.

It is a filter container with nothing in it and the shown light fixture on top. See the pics.

The side of the unit says EcoSystemsAquarium.com
the top light hood says Top Aquarium Series
the bulb says 13W 6700W

There are 4 divisions inside the thing, from looking at it left to right is a 3 inch wide space, then one about 10-11", next one is about an inch wide, then two inches. there is the thing behind the 1st section which looks like it holds something.

I am sure every one here knows about what this is. A filter refugium? anyone have an actual name for this thing?

The light does not work and I am not sure if it is the inline rotary switch or the bulb.

The price for these is CRAZY, but I am sure they come with all the internal stuff and media.

So is this a great thing to have and use? And if so how and with what, lol I feel dumb as a rock. Like a fish out of water, :ROFLMAO:

Oopsie dumb noob move

Couple days ago bought rocks with cool looking stuff growing on them. Oopsie was that they were full of the MOST number of bad / nuisance algae.

Anyway took a mini course in algae not to buy. Also bout what I thought was a Caribbean Flower Anemone. No, not that, a Xenia. Very cool, but didn't want the craziness in the tank.

Sold one of the 3 rocks with algae for what I paid for it, and the Xenia and some snails. To someone who knew what it was and I offered full disclosure on all the things i had found out about it.

So, I got 3 new things for my tank instead.

Let me know if there might be any problems.

I got a red starfish

Royal Gramma Basslet, not very happy in the bag but looks much better in the tank, phone died and this was the only pic.
60074-albums13960-picture67238.jpg

Scooter Blenny, same thing, much better pic when in the tank, later I will post the other pics.

Heading to the lfs tomorrow to get some additional pods to supplement his needs.

These will be going into the next size tank specifically yet to be determined, but likely the repainted JEBO New R375 aka 35G. I have plenty of rock to rescape with. Should be in 2-3 weeks.

The star clamped onto the rock, the Blenny was scouring the rockwork, and the Royal Gramma hid in the caves then started to explore. I hope they will be good together.

From what I can tell, they can have personality issues, but should be good together.

I was also wanting a Firefish and a Clown Goby would these be alright together in the larger tank?

Did you make sure that the scooter blenny was eating. Its actually not a blenny its a dragonette lives mainly off pods. Mine lasted about 3 months and died

I didn't. Though it looked like he was scooting around biting at things behind and in the Macro Algae. I was given pods with my Chaeto originally so I think they are still in there. Also I got Chaeto a second time and it and some Red Gracilaria are in the main tank presently.

But I am going to the lfs today and pick some up to make sure he has food. I have frozen BBS, and was gonna try some of those out on him (defrosted).

Did you supplement your guys diet or give him different types of foods like frozen to try to get him used to eating dry foods? I have read about people doing this and some times successful and sometimes not. If anyone has any hints or tricks to get this eating thing moving along faster, please share or drop a link to point me in the right direction.

Did they give you a name for the star? It doesn't look reef safe.

Red :/

I can move it back to the little tank but them I wouldn't have any microfilm on the glass and stuff unless I moved a LR from display into the 5G.

Just watch it. A lot of stars are hard to keep as well. If it starts to deteriorate don't be to surprised. They don't handle shipping well. The gramma is one of my favorite fish though :). Good pick!

??? maybe Fromia milleporella

Possibly Fromia milleporella maybe from the pics I see online that variety is supposed to stay small 3" it is very flat, and not tubular or bumpy.

I hope...

Yes, I will. Maybe Bali Red Starfish. I also read about feeding some fresh stuff too, like a little bit of oyster or mussel meat, maybe it will like BBS. I like oysters and mussels too so we can share!

I love all my little guys. The Gramma already took up one of the holes on the rock and was starring at me last night.

Ok yeah looks like a fromia. They are notoriously difficult to keep long term as no ones positive what they eat.

Better I got him than the other couple who were looking at him. I will do some more reading there wasn't too much from my initial checking on them, as you said not too sure what they eat, sand sifting and pods and smallish little things. I will try feeding it some little bit of food here in the near future and see.

One thing I read is that they have a "mouth" on all their underside, not like a central mouth but that the insides of the area under the legs has a substance that they can break it down, maybe enzyme and "absorb" it with so they eat differently. I think that info was from a biologist who specializes in urchins but was keeping stars and talked to a different specialist to get the lodown, lol. I was scanning info quickly so maybe it was maybe it wasn't. :)

I am really excited about them all.

I fed BBS and Scooter was scooting all over eating bite after bite of what seemed like invisible things. :yum: I can't see stuff that small.

Moved some coral frags around.

Did 50% pwc on the QT for the live rock.

2 LFS in the direction of work didn't have any pods. I am so glad he was eating well.
