Just your phosphate are a high. Watch out for frozen foods they are high in phosphates. rinse it out in RO water then feed to fish. Also you may want to feed everyother day.

ill tell you what someone told me, that hippo tang is to big for a 35g

My latest hipo tang is about 3 inches long and very fat, my lfs that I have the deal with is getting some smaller ones in this week so I will be making the swap soon. (people seem to like the chunky hippos that come from my house).

Not just a hippo but no tang belongs in a tank that small. Hate to be the bearer of bad news but I have to say it. Even though nothing happens now does not mean everything is OK. Read this response from a person I consider the best in the business.

I mentioned this in the first page of the thread - Look's like he has something set up:

I have a deal with a lfs to trade in the hippo once it grows about an inch. The guy said that i could trade him in for another tiny one and keep doing it as long as keep the fish healthy. Im trying to convince my wife to let me buy a 125gal that is being sold on craigslist localy. That way I can have my wifes Dory without feeling guilty about cramping the tang.

Even still, there could be effects even at the very early stages depending on the tank size. I'm no expert, but it just isn't something I would like to risk. Not to mention the added stress of netting them more then need be.

Its a double edged sword. because I realize that (depending on your LFS) you are actually fattening them up and taking better care of them then your LFS would, making them sell faster (hopefully to good homes) when they return. And its not like your LFS would have them in their recommended tank size either.

Its a tough call.

As long as LFS's offer that deal, it's gonna happen. I know I've been tempted and the only thing that's stopped me is knowing that I would get too attached and hate to give it up.

Thats why I do it. The fish in LFS are usually kept in 20-30 gal tanks and are open to whatever diseases may come into the tanks from new fish. From what weve noticed, tha tangs that I take home grow faster than the ones that stay in the store. as for catching them in the tank, I use a fish trap, put food in it and the little guys cant resist.

Ok so after getting hit hard by the Tang police I decided not to keep fattening up Hippos and giving them a nicer habitat than the LFS till they go to a permanent home.

Well long story short I got a slightly bigger tank, upgrading from a 36 gal to a 56 gal. I had a couple of casualties, a six line wrasse, a cleaner wrasse, and my favorite a tailspot blenny.

here are some pics of before to now
