That's the same sand I used in three reef tanks (mixed with some actual live ocean sand). By far my favorite reef substrate. Great pick. That cube is also my favorite tank shape. *jealousy brewing* lol
Have you ever considered setting up your tank with a two island rock scape? It's where no rock is used in the center of the tank and it has two piles of rock on either side. It's great for viewing fish and keeping a mix of sand corals, reef corals and clams. The corals can be places to grow towards the center and the front. It gives off a great feeling of depth and variety while using less rock than standard rock walls. Just throwing out a random idea. ^_^

That's a cool idea. I haven't exactly planned the scape yet. I just know that I don't have enough right now so I will have to order some more dry rock. I found a Marine Safe "sunk pirate ship " I am considering adding in like the middle front and have coral all around it. My kids like it which is most important and it would look like a ship wreck in the ocean with live corals growing around and on it.
On a side not I traded my torch for a Rose bubble tip and just saw one of my clowns nosing into it which is cool. Funny part it the clown is 1 1/2 time the size of the baby nem.

Man, putting a wrecked ship into a reef tank is such a no-no that I think you absolutely HAVE to do it!!! If your kids want it and it's made to go into saltwater then why the heck not. People always say to try to emulate the ocean, which is always the best advice. Still, it's a fact that many people dream of diving around ship wrecks close to or in a reef. Cool wrecks are a tourist attraction for ocean explorers and vacationers. They exists all over the ocean and many are beautiful. If it can be an asset in the ocean don't let anybody tell you it can't be an awesome focal point in your tank. This is your and your family's project. Rock on... then post a pic! lol ^_^

I know its a no no usually. But that's the idea I had that its done all over and there are unintentional wrecks that turn into habitats all the time. I agree bottom line is I have to look at it everyday so I better be happy with it.

I hate to say this, but I was thinking about using black sand in my next reef tank. I don't know a thing about it other than it's non reflective, which I've heard can be a slight issue for the underside or under edges of some close to the ground corals. Heard they can loose color around those areas because of it. Are there other problems with black sand? I've always gone with CaribSea special grade, which I absolutely love. Is Tahitian Moon sand (think that's the name) really bad or something?

No it's not bad. If u are referring the convict saying no black sand it's just because he doesn't like the look. I looked into that sand. It isn't all black and when I saw it in person it was more a dark brown to me. I'm going to get the special grade myself. Going out tomorrow for water and that.

Bought my ATO container tonight. Sand tomorrow and enough RO water to make salt to get this bad boy going. Picking up the skimmer Saturday afternoon.
FWIW AquaC has amazing customer service. Emailed to ask a question on if there new muffler would fit the one I am buying and where to order if it did and I got a email in 15 hours from the VP asking for my address so he could send me one free of charge. Three days later its here.

Glad you went with the cube. It's just more space to play around with! It's a beautiful tank.

Got the skimmer yesterday. Finishing its cleaning this mourning. Bought the sand last night. Went with a 40 lb bag a caribsea ocean direct agornite live sand. Wife wants the new on up and the biocube out so today or tomorrow will be the move. The biocube is sitting way off the wall and driving her nuts.
