5 Gallon Nano Reef Log

Well the 5gall nano is finally up and running
I was going to wait until summer but I said, what the heck lets do it now so....I ran to the small little super pets that has nothing good, BUT they do have crushed coral for a reasonable price I got 10 lbs. of it for about $8.39 or somthing (with tax, its $7.99 no tax) and got some small rocks, and set it up! so I took a small HOB filter I have been running on my 29gall just for this (been on for like 3 months) and put it on, put some water from the main and everything, and the SPG is rateing 0 ???? I know what everyone is going to say...get a refractometer, I will but they are expensive, and im not made of money ( ) anyways, so ya im going to get more rock and stuff on it! I hope to have maybe about....25ish watts on it so thats about 5wpg and stock it with just inverts and maybe a clown goby or somthing! here are pictures

Looks like a good start. A refract is best, but if you are using the deep six, I suggest taking it to the LFS and having them "calibrate" it against their refractor. It will at least give you a little better idea of how close your SG reading is. Keep the pics coming.

You could alos calibrate it using distilled water and marking where 0 is.....

well all stats are clear (ammonia 0, nitrate 0, will go buy a test kit but LFS they have never led me atray, and they are VERY knowledgeable and wont sell you anything if its bad, and tested it and said it was good, but they were out of nitrite test kits..) anyways so now I have 5x tiny hermits, 1x astrea snail and 1x turbo snail, and I have about 3 lbs. of rock, will get more rock and more hermits! I currently have about 3wpg on it but I would like to get at least 5wpg if not 7wpg....?

wow, that looks very nice :p I am going to start up a nano tank soon, and I am dead set on a 5 gallon. I really like your set up and clean-up crew. Please keep putting up some pictures when you get some coral. i am not sure what coral I will have, but I would love to compare notes with you and see yours. Thanks, and keep up the good work.
