Jist ordered one for my nano, Its the only one i can afford honestly lol. How do they function? Will it do a good job in a 12 gallon? At least for a short while?

In that size tank i would have passed on a skimmer, water changes can do all you need done. BUT since you have one coming then it can't hurt. 
I didn't much like mine when i had it but some people can get it adjusted and working well.

Yeah i didnt feel one was totaly nessasary but im having some algae problems and i feel a skimmer would really help keep stuff clean and safe for my wonderful creatures. I work at a small pet shop as the fish specialist, Not
Amazing with the whole
Saltwater thing i just started my reef and i get discounts at my store so i figured why the heck not. Theres a youtube reveiw on it, doesnt seem to be the greatest but it works and for $50-$60 you realy cant go wrong.
