Chiller for nano

I have a nano 12 gallon, jbj I would like to add a chiller. Has anyone had any experience modifying the hood so the tubing will fit through the back. We live in the desert...tank gets really warm in the summer. Temp bounces all over the scale.

How big is the tubing? the rear of the hood can easily be cut to fit a 1/4" (possibly 1/2")pipe in there. have you tried keeping the feeding lid open? living in the desert you've got to have AC so whats the ambient temp in the room?
