Got pics of the hermies, but the snails were being stubborn and were just out of camera sight. So here's pics! :) sorry about the bad quality. They're iPod photos.

Def. Following along. I'd like to make a ten or 20 gal tank sometime. Are you going to have a sump?

Sorry for the delay, but I'm not having a sump, and my snail is a margarita snail. The other snail died, not sure why, my parameters are all in check. But I think the guy sold me a turbo snail anyway, so I would have had to return the little guy at some point. But I want to go get maybe three more of the margarita snails. I really like mine, and want a few more.

If you don't mind picking up toppled rocks the turbo would be fine but for aesthetic reasons returning him may be good all depends on your point of view

The turbo snail is the one who died. Anyways, I don't want to risk rocks falling when I get corals, so I'm staying away from the turbos.

Just FYI, the margarita snails are from slightly cooler waters than what we keep our tanks at, so they tend to not live very long. Astrea and banded trochus are good. Banded trochus move fast too, so watching them can be kinda fun.

Oh, then I don't know what else to get... My lfs only had turbo snails, margarita snails, and assorted snails that I was told were not reef safe. But I don't know what kind of snails they were.

Margarita snails are fine, I have a couple left right now, just wanted to let you know that they'll need to be replaced on a fairly regular basis cuz of the temps they normally live in.

So, I have an issue. My filter stopped working. My powerhead is fine, but my expensive, 'good quality' aquaclear filter crapped out on me. The motor won't run even though its plugged in. What do I do?

Did you try taking the impeller out to see if anything is caught in there? I've had that happen before. If the motor burnt out, I think you can just order a new one online instead of buying a whole new filter.

Before you think it's dead try taking the filter apart (after you unplug and empty it) and get all the sand and salt out of the impeller and it's housing and make sure to put a mesh filter on your filter intake, lol.... I did the same thing.

Yeah, as stated, the AC are good, but the impellers do get stopped up easily. I find this is especially true with smaller ones, like the AC 30. My AC 70 doesn't stop as often, but the 30 has trouble restarting almost every time it's turned off for cleaning. I've heard of some people sticking a chopstick down there to get the impeller going again. I usually just stick my finger in and get it going. If you take the impeller out and clean any debris out, it should get going again.

Yeah, I was freaking out cause I thought that if the filter had died, my hermit crabs wouldn't be getting enough oxygen in the water. *facepalm* I finally had enough sense to take it apart to see what the issue was, and after putting it back to together, the impeller is working again. Something must have gotten caught, but I didn't see what. Oh well, at least I know what to try next time. :)

So, yesterday I got two nassarius snails and a Firefish. :) they all seem to be doing well. One of the snails was out when I was taking pics, but the other was burrowed somewhere. The Firefish is just so fun to watch! But really hard to take pictures of, because he always darts back into the little hole he found in the rocks. But I managed to get some decent pictures, though they don't show his colors very well. Oh, and the hermies were practically begging for a photo shoot, so there's some of them too. :)
