No you want nitrates to be high. Nitrates are the beneficial bacteria. You want ammonia and nitrItes to be zero. When you have zero ammo, zero nitrites, and a good number of nitrates, this marks the end of the cycle. Dose ammonia to 2 ppm, and you might find that nitrites and nitrates will go up again. You have to redose ammonia whenever it drops to zero to provide a constant food source for nitrates.

Well yes it is, but after the cycle, as high nitrates is toxic to fish. But during the cycle if you don't dose ammonia nitrates will not grow, which leads to readings of zero nitrates.

B careful with the ammonia. Too much creates Nitrous Oxide when broken down by the anaerobic bacteria. Ur fish might b happy but I'm afraid they might succumb to the detrimental effects of this gaseous compound in ur water column.

This is beginning to get a little confusing. I believe before I had gotten my test kit that it had already had a high spike of all of them. When I tested it it had to be on the downward slope. Therefor it should be good as long as I get rid of the remaining ammonia which could be 0 it was just to close to tell

Have you been re-dosing ammonia throughout the cycle? Otherwise it won't work

He wasn't dosing ammonia he was using a shrimp. So there would be no dosing.

Hey!

I'd chime in but everything looks good to me! I've been watching along and the 22 Engine along with others have been guiding you in the right direction.

Like the rock work, the tank is awesome as I have the same minus the light. You may find heat issues with the HQI and the power heads.

Just stay on top of your water changes, I do a 5 gallon water change every Friday and change out my filter floss from the inTank media rack 2x's a week. I feel the stock filtration is less to be desired.

Hey Convict! Yea I have left the light on for about 10 hours a day the last few days with no issues. But I've got a small fan pointing towards it just to be on the safe side. 22 is hooking me up with the Intank media basket, so that was very nice of him. I will sure keep up with those water changes although this is much easier to change than my 55 gallon cichlid tank ha!

Yeah I bet lol. I could change my 29 all day lol. My 75 Cichlid tank is a different story. Are you running a skimmer? I ran a Tunze9002 for 9 months and never had to empty the cup so I unplugged it and I'm gonna see if there's any difference, I doubt it since it seemed to do nothing and I got tired of always dialing it in and once you put your hand in the tank it breaks the seal so to speak and during water changes I'd unplug everything and have to adjust the skimmer once again. Waste of time IMO.

What are you gonna run in your media rack? I run filter floss top, purigen middle and phosguard bottom. Chemi pure elite is on chamber 1.

If you every have a chance I'd recommend the Mp10 it kicks!! And I like that the motor is on the dry side(outside the tank) less heat and I only need one as opposed to the 2 Koralia 425's I had.
