First reef tank. 3g JBJ Picotope *56k get a sandwich*

Figured I'd post my first reef tank here. Done a lot of reading on this site but I've mainly only posted in the FW section. Few here and there in the SW.

Tank Specs:
3g glass tank
9w 50/50 PC
40 GPH filter
~5lbs of live rock
~3lbs of live sand
Started - April 10th, 2007

On to the pictures! May I remind you, I am photographically challenged.

Lights off:

Stocked with LR/LS (flash):

Stocked with LR/LS (no flash, lights on):

April 16th - Added 2 Margarita Snails and 1 Turbo Snail.

Welcome to the salty side of AA!!! I saw the new JBJ pico online and wondered how it was. Looks good. Keep us updated on the project.

It's a great little setup. Easy to maintain. Works perfect on your desk.

Most of these corals were added about three to four weeks ago.

Some red zoanthids:

What I think to be Fire & Ice:

Brown Palys:

Radioactive Dragon Eyes:

Thanks guys. Positive feedback is always encouraging.

I love the Zoanthids as well. The red Zoas were only $5, the "Fire & Ice" were free, and the Radioactive Dragon Eyes were only $17 (I stopped counting at 35 polyps). A LFS near me has awesome deals on frags. Even better, he's expanding to another, much larger, frag tank. 8O Rest of the corals were either $5 or free.

Believe it or not the corals are growing! The Ricordia has almost doubled. The Brown Palys and the green mouthed ones (can't remember the specific name) are growing new polyps/heads/whatever.

The thing I love about my Picotope is that it only takes a frag. There is no need for full grown "mother colony" type corals. Keeps the costs down which is important with 8 other FW tanks!

Looks great! Awesome deal on the Zoas as well. Yah know...Coralife makes a very nice nano fixture that has one 9watt 10k and one 9watt actinic on it. I have one on my 2 1/2gal and it sure lights the thing up. I have it resting on two smal strips of acylic. Down the road, I think your corals would enhoy the extra light. Just a suggestion...

I have plans to upgrade the lighting. I just want to see how this works for now.

I do have an extra 7w 7200k (goofy K temp isn't it?) that I'm working on setting up. The light sits like 10" above the water line, it's a stupid design.

Also working on a DIY tank and DIY 70w MH combo as well. That should be happening within a month.

Guess maybe I should update this eh?

Here are some of my newer corals and some of them feeding on Mysis.

You can see how big this shroom really is, just got down eating.

This one is currently chowing down:

Ricordia enjoying a nice meal:

A sneaky little bristleworm who climbed into the opening of one of my shrooms to steal some Mysis! Talk about a sneaky guy!

That puts my 29 gallon to shame.

Then again, I had some financial issues a couple months into setting it up, so things haven't gotten to where I'd like them.

No new pics in almost two months time! Only addition have been a couple new zoo frags, Ricordia, and I started fragging my shrooms.

I've been busy planning and building a frameless 12g. It will have a 10g display, false wall, and 2g fuge. Sort of a DIY all-in-one type tank. It'll be lit by a 150w 14k (hoping to get 12k) DE MH. Should be a fun frag tank to start with.
