Is a 300W heater overkill on a 20g Long? I found one on craigslist for cheap and was wondering if it is worth it. Or should I stay around 100W?

Definately get a smaller heater, around 100W. If that 300W heater fails (it does happen) and sticks on, you'll cook your tank. It's not worth the risk.

I agree, get a 100w heater, and buy a new one. They are cheap. Or, you can get 2x50w heaters which is kind of a safety measure just in case one fails, you still have the other. One 100w is fine though.

Ok, thanks for the input. I thought 300W was a bit too much but like I said, it was a deal on craigslist. I will look into a 100W heater.
