You have a mini maxi anenome dont you? The lfs had several really nice ones today but the guy said clowns don't host it. Is that true? Is there any reason to get one of those nems other than beauty?

Yupp I do. People get them because they stay small so they are perfect for picos or nanos and of course the colors. Clowns haven't been known to host them no, I've only heard of one story about it happening. Porcelain crabs and sexy shrimp will host them though.

Edit* They are also a very hardy anemone and easy to care for, also their sting isn't as dangerous as the regular sized carpets so it is really unlikely it will kill anything.

I was looking at the porcelain crabs today but wasn't sure if I should since I didn't know anything about them. lol
I liked how they wave their little arms.....

You should totally get a mini maxi and a porcelain crab for your 125! The clowns wont bother them since they don't like those anemone. They are filter feeders and will also eat small chunks of food. I'm going to feed mine cyclopeeze every once in awhile I think since he can grab that from the water lol. They also eat some mucus off of the anemone so it would do even better with a mini maxi.

Looks so good! Love the two rocks. Reminds me of the two pitons in St Lucia:)

Thanks!!

I went and got another porcelain crab today, I really want them to pair up but apparently telling the sex of them is impossible! So I'm taking a chance and hoping they are opposite haha if not and they don't get along I can always move one to my nano.

Also I found something horrible in my tank today, an empty shell of an unknown crab! Eek, stupid hitchhiking crabs! I am going to set up a shot glass trap tonight, he is really small.

I was sifting through the live rock at my LFS and a porcelain crab on one of the rocks nearly gave me a heart attack. The little guy is lucky I didn't drop the rock with him on the bottom of it >>

PS, nice tank. I know that in reality the greens are a whole lot greener than they show up on camera.

Kelsey I really like your tank. The LR is so tall it gives it almost a cave effect.

That hitchhiker crab scared me, I thought it was your new crab! :0

Now that would be a hitchhiker that I would like to have show up in my tank lol.

This made me laugh haha :)

Here's a pic of my sexy shrimp and porcelain crab sharing the anemone lol I thought it was pretty cute.

The pic with the shrimp and crab didn't show up.

The second shows how small the pico tank is, I was like "those look like regular sized glasses to me"

haha yupp small tank :) Does the pic show up now? It is showing up on my computer.

Caught no crabs last night though, I kinda figured I wouldn't since it just shed, he will be hiding until his shell hardens. I'll set the traps up tonight again.

More pics!!

porcelain and sexy (in case the last one still isn't showing up)

Stressed looking brains, they have been stressed at the store for a few days so I got a good deal on them, the green one was especially stressed so I felt bad and brought it home. ($40 for the colorful brain reg $85, $25 for the green reg $60)

Those brains definitely look like they'll live on. No tissue damage, infection, still bright colors. Nice grabs :). I wish my lfs was having trouble with their hammer corals ;)

Might wanna turkey baste the sand off of em though.

Looks GREAT Kelsey! The porcelain crab and the sexy shrimp sharing the piece of coral was adorable. Fully tank shot? :D

Thanks guys!

I didn't even think of the sand haha I'll go do that! I think they will recover too :) fingers crossed!

Oh and I'll get a full tank shot tomorrow, lights are out already.

Well it looks like I just experienced my first brown jelly disease, this is what I came home to today after work.

img_1400357_0_4ad1113991e41d636276eb7e209798ed.jpg

I took it out but a few pieces of jelly floated off, I hope my other corals don't get it. I did a water change on the pico and an iodine dip on the remaining brain. I also moved the last brain to the large tank since the water quality might be better for it's recovery.

I then found a small hitchhiker crab in my nano, which is odd since I haven't added anything in a very very long time! I took the rock and dipped the whole thing in fresh water and he came out eventually, smallest crab everrr, like way smaller than a pea! I think I might have to do the freshwater dip on my pico rocks to get that crab out too, I still haven't caught the little bugger.

(no crabs were harmed in this process, the little guy is now happily living in the sump of our large tank)

i had a frogspawn that caught brown jelly an iodine dip worked for it it didnt spread any further
