I'm considering putting 2 mangrove shoots to help nutrient export in my 8 gal nano..I have no issues with this tank but thought to head off any before they happen..if does well may do this with my 10 as well..i have an aqueon 8 so i have the filter built in like the biocubes..it has a " port" lid that can be removed or modified to allow for the shoots..any input is appreciated...seems like this is a common practice....

Exporting nutrients through macro algaes is pretty common practice, that part is correct. In terms of mangroves, they can be surprisingly difficult. I attempted to keep several and it wasn't very successful. I have read about using a HOB filter like you are mentioning successfully, it would be easier than me having to try to float them in a sump. Definately do some reading before attempting them, especially since they will need misted with freshwater daily.
