Nano cracked, experience w/warranty anyone? (w/pic)
My nano is only a month old and it started to crack. I am beyond upset. My co-worker set me up with some frags and when I got home to acclimate them i saw this.......
I have everything in a rubbermaid container now, but need to know about if/how to get a replacement. I bought it from nanocustoms.com and have emailed & called for info about this. Their paperwork says they don't warranty cracked tanks...Would this be warrantied thru JBJ???
Any info on claiming a warranty on tank would be helpful. ............I can't belive this has happened..............I also am apprehensive to get a new tank if they do not warranty it, as I'm afraid the quality is cheap and it will only crack again.
ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Jim

I just spoke with Chris from Nanocustoms.com and he was very cool (even returned my call Sunday night, how's that for customer service). I am going to call JBJ in the morning to discuss a replacement. Apparently they have had some problems with tanks cracking, so hopefully this won't be too much of an issue. Chris is going to work with me if they won't help. Says a lot for nanocustoms, cause it's not their fault!
Anyone have problems with their nano's, or am i just lucky?
I'll keep ya posted.

Does anyone know if they are all cracking in the same place. Jim...Is yours in the curve on the corner? How did you find it?

lando, it is cracing from the top right corner. it's smooth on both sides, but the crack was not noticable in the am, when i was acclimating my frags, i saw it clear as day at dinner time. I'm calling jbj to discuss the warranty today.

Jim, let me know what JBJ says. I am interested to see if they will cover it since it has been modified by nano-customs. Hey, if nothing else, you can just go buy one of the $99 regualr nanos and put your modified hood on it. I do not think JBJ changeed the actual tank itself when they added the deluxe. Better lighting, cooling fans and a new nozel for the PH was about it. You already have the tool to do the "overflow mod".

Thanks lando. So far, they seem pretty cool. I sent some pics and faxed some documentation to JBJ at their request. Thier communication has been great thus far. Chris from nanocustoms has offered to take care of it for me if all else fails......How that for customer service. That's why it pays to pay a little extra sometimes if you know the service is top notch.
I hope JBJ validates the warranty, I would be very pleased to know they stand behind their product. If not, I would not be comfortable purchasing another one.
If they validate that the crack was a defective tank, they said they would ship me a new one out. I'm anxioulsly awaiting their reply.
Just curious, with no sand, only my live rock, ph, hearter and lights. How long will my corals live in the rubbermaid? I plan on doing a small water change daily.
Thanks all,
Jim

I would ask the lfs (one that you trust) to hold them for you. Maybe even pay them a small fee if need be. Better than loosing your corals.

Rev - great idea, but wouldn't ya know it, my LFS is moving into a new building this week (3x the size and all new tank setups) which kills that idea, as all their livestock is being moved 20 miles away to their new location.
I must say JBJ has been terriffic in handling this matter, here is their reply to my email with photos of the crack……
“Hello Jim,
thank you for your email. We definitely stand behind the products that we manufacture and will start the claim process to send out the new replacement tank for you.
I will forward this information to Borite and he will handle your claim.
We appreciate your support and patience in the matter”
I spoke to the customer service rep again and was assured a new tank was on the way, being shipped today! I'm crossing my fingers that the next one will hold up, what are the odds of 2 cracking............ hope i didn't just jinx myself.
Thanks for all the replies!
Jim
